Since 2022, Polius Aldan, a gold mining company, has supported research to assess the population of the endangered Asiatic spruce grouse, a species listed in the Red Book. In March 2023, with support from Polius Aldan, the Directorate organized an expedition in the Neryungri region to determine the bird’s current habitat, as previous studies showed it no longer resides in its traditional areas.
